Spot the Art in the Garden

The primary purpose of this design is to foster children’s interest in gardening and plants, and also in art and artists. The garden features elements borrowed from works of art, such as van Gogh’s sunflowers and Monet’s water lilies. Children can spot these elements after referring to the interactive art posts along the front boundary, where each artist’s work is shown.

The work of van Gogh features significantly in the garden, giving it a Mediterranean feel. There are also influences from French, British and other Dutch artists, including two square flower beds that each link to an abstract painting by Mondrian.

The gravelled courtyard area, with its pond and water lilies, has a subdued tone that blends with the muted shade of the pots, fences and shelter and contrasts with the vibrant colours of the plants.

The garden provides a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment for pupils to work in – and a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy.
