Breathing Space...Thinking Place
This garden reflects the ethos of Samaritans, a charity where an individual is given space and time to be listened to, without judgement, in order that they can start to find a way through even the most difficult feelings. Themes of face-to-face communication, shelter, support, an oasis of calm and ease of accessibility can all be found in this design.
There are three distinct areas in the garden. A slate-paved section represents hectic and sometimes difficult pathways, and features plants with strong structure, texture and depth of colour. White stepping stones lead to a central curved steel archway, where two seats face each other over reflective pools of water. The rear of the garden has a calm, restful atmosphere created by lush unmown grass underfoot and a lighter planting palette. A water wall mirrors the curves of the central arch and adds the meditative sound of slowly running water. All the materials and plants have been considered with sound ethical and sustainable principles in mind.
The garden is being auctioned on www.buyoncegivetwice.co.uk in aid of Samaritans.
